Poetry & Medicine Producers

David
Watts, MD, is Clinical Professor of
Medicine at the University of California San Francisco and is
a well-known television host and producer. He has appeared regularly
on PBS, Lifetime Network and KTVUs Channel 2 News, and has
received thirty-five local and national awards for excellence
in television programming. Dr. Watts is also a poet, published
in a wide range of national literary magazines, and he lectures
to first-year medical students at UCSF on the subject of the personal
impact of illness and the importance of a good doctor-patient
relationship.

Joan
Baranow, PhD, teaches English and Creative
Writing at Dominican University of California in San Rafael.
Her poems have appeared in The Paris Review, The Western Journal
of Medicine, Feminist Studies, and elsewhere. In 2006
her poems about her struggle with infertility will appear in the
anthology, Stories of Illness and Healing: Women Write their Bodies,
to be published by Kent State University Press. She has received
an Individual Artists Grant in Poetry from the Marin Arts Council.
She has also published a book of poems, Living Apart, two chapbooks,
and a poetry and jazz CD collaboration with her husband David Watts,
called Powerful Seeds.

Victoria
Chaban is an experienced producer.She
has worked for many production companies in the Bay Area creating
corporate commercials and documentary style television. She was
the producer for a project with Sun Microsystems which won a Crystal
award.
Victoria began her documentary
career working on a behind the Scenes Documentary for the Monterey
Bay Aquarium with Eric Jones Productions in 1994. Prior to production
she was involved in set design. She has an undergraduate degree
in Fine Arts from Whitman College. She is a painter and poetry enthusiast.

James
Cavenaugh has since 1981 written, directed,
and produced hundreds of video programs for broadcast, training,
and promotion. INSTRUCTIONAL VIDEOS for the American Red Cross,
Kodak, NOVA Interactive, United Farm Workers. DOCUMENTARY's
